Does my child need speech therapy?
As parents, we are intuitive to the needs of our children. If you are asking this question, then a speech-language evaluation is most likely warranted.
What can I expect at our first appointment?
The first appointment typically begins with a parent/child interview. You know your child better than anyone else, so you are a vital component to your child's speech-language evaluation. Please come prepared to provide information regarding your greatest concerns as a parent, what motivates your child, the result you would like to obtain from speech therapy, and where you would like to see your child in 5-10 years. Your child will be engaged at his/her comfort level in a natural environment. You will leave the first appointment with a functional, easy to implement, plan to begin maximizing progress immediately.
What if I don't live close to Hear My Words?
We provide audio and video consultations to parents and teachers based on the needs of the child and family. We also provide video therapy sessions that most often work beautifully in the child's natural home environment.
What makes Hear My Words different?
Therapy is centered around not only the needs of the child, but also around the dynamics of the family in meeting those needs. Parents (and sometimes siblings) are the best teachers for a child. Hear My Words utilizes family centered therapy to provide more opportunities for generalization in the child's home environment. We all lead busy lives, sometimes with multiple children, work, activities, etc., and often can't squeeze in another task at home. Families are provided suggestions for building teaching moments into existing routines. Parent participation and involvement is a crucial component to progress.
The therapy setting at Hear My Words is a private, natural environment including elements and motivators that are similar to those in the child's home environment. A therapy session is less like a clinical office and more like playing at a friend's house, encouraging generalization.
We also provide teletherapy and consultation services.
What about scheduling?
